Quick Start
This is the shortest safe route to a first launch. Allow about 20 minutes, plus the time needed to crawl your site.
Prerequisites
- An Engine 64 account with a workspace
- A public page or website containing answers you trust
- Permission to add a script to your website or tag manager
1. Create or choose an agent
Open Agents, then create an agent or choose an existing one. Give it one clear job, such as answering support questions or qualifying enquiries. A narrow first scope is easier to test and improve.
2. Add useful source material
Open Data Sources and add at least one source:
Websitefor published help, product, policy, and service pagesFilesfor documents that are not already published onlineFAQsfor short, definitive answers that must stay consistent
Start with the pages your team already uses to answer customers. Avoid uploading old and current versions of the same policy; the agent cannot reliably decide which one you meant.
3. Test before you publish
Open AI Demo and ask:
- a common, easy question;
- a question that depends on a policy or important detail;
- the same question phrased a different way; and
- a question your sources do not answer.
If an answer is wrong, fix the source first. Use Settings -> Behaviour for tone, boundaries, and escalation instructions—not as a second knowledge base.
4. Allow your domain and publish
Open Settings -> Security and add the hostname where the widget will run, such as example.com. Requests are denied when no allowed domain is configured.
Then open Publish:
- copy the script snippet;
- add it once to the shared layout of your website; and
- publish your website changes.
Engine 64 creates a default publishable key when an agent does not already have one. The key is meant to appear in browser code; your domain allowlist is what prevents it being used from another site.
5. Test the live widget
Open your published website in a private browser window and check that:
- the launcher appears;
- a real question receives a relevant answer;
- a source link opens the page you expected;
- lead capture follows the mode selected under
Settings -> Appearance; and - the conversation appears in
Conversations.
If the launcher does not appear, work through Troubleshooting.
