File Uploads

Open Data Sources -> Files when the answer lives in a document rather than on your public website.

Supported Formats

  • .pdf
  • .doc
  • .docx
  • .txt
  • .md

Each file can be up to 20 MB.

Scanned PDFs made only of images may produce little or no usable text. If you cannot select the words in a PDF, run optical character recognition (OCR) before uploading it.

Upload and check a file

  1. Upload one or more supported files.
  2. Wait until each file becomes active. Pending and processing mean it is not ready for chat yet; error means processing failed.
  3. Open the inspector and check that headings, paragraphs, tables, and important details survived extraction.
  4. Ask questions that can be answered only from the file.

Avoid conflicting versions

Give documents clear names and remove superseded versions. Uploading Policy-final.pdf, Policy-final-2.pdf, and a current website policy gives the agent several plausible answers with no reliable way to know which one you intended.

When a document changes, delete the old source and upload the replacement. For an urgent, short-lived correction, add a direct FAQ while the replacement processes, then remove the FAQ if it is no longer needed.
